Most of us can agree that concepts stick in students' brains when they are introduced in a concrete, hands-on manner. Here is a idea that both Natasha and I tried in our classrooms with great success. It started off small....but Natasha and I often up the ante with each other! Healthy competition can be a good thing!
The tape is still on our floors and not only for a possible rematch. This has been very useful for mapping, coordinates, perimeter, area and other forms of measurement so far. Looking to the future, I think this could also be helpful in fractions. The tape is a bit tattered now, and my pride is still bruised....but I would do it again!
